History 1376- Paper Assignment #3 The United States has had a multitude of conflicts throughout all it’s years as a country. One of the preeminent conflicts that the United States had to face was the Civil War. Also known as â€Å"The War Between the States,† because it was a war fought between the United States and Confederate States in 1865 over the conservation of the institution of slavery. The Civil War has made abiding effects on the United States today by reuniting two unions, ending the institution of slavery and helping to establish the country that we know today. The four most significant events that led to the Civil War was the Compromise of 1850, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, the Dred Scott decision, and Abraham Lincoln’s election. The first event that prompted the Civil war was the Compromise of 1850. In 1846 the United States and Mexico were at war, because the United States wanted to annex Texas and expropriate other Mexican territories. After two years, in 1848 the war concluded and th e treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed. The treaty redrew the lines of territory, which gave the United States a third of Mexican land. Americans started moving into these lands hoping to turn the them into states. In the 1849 California had a large enough population and was qualified to apply for statehood. In class we have spent a lot of time learning and discussing Martin Luther’s life and the important role that he played in the protestant reformation. Martin Luther was someone who saw many issues throughout the Catholic Church. Martin Luther was a monk and scholar who was in Wittenburg. In 1517 Luther penned the 95 theses to the door of a catholic church this document attacked the Catholic Church’s corrupt practice of selling â€Å"indulgences† to absolve sin. He felt that religion should be more personal and that the bible should be translated into everyday language. His â€Å"95 Theses,† which had two central beliefs—that the Bible is the main religious authority and that humans should only be able to receive salvation by faith and not by their†¦show more content†¦Luther makes the decision to leave the monastery to study theology back in Wittenberg, the invention of the printing press which made it easier to for his words to circulate t hroughout Europe. The information that is presented throughout the movie is factually represented because these events have all been proven in the primary sources that we have read throughout class this semester. They did a good job being very descriptive and highlighting every detail as far as the most popular events that occurred throughout Luther’s life. I could follow the movie and read the history from the sources and they match up very accurately. There were very accurate with the most popular parts of Luther’s life, they were able to show us v isuals of how things were and his ability to make a change in history.
